The Course
o2

Swim Course: 10 lengths of the pool, using the Smart Start System (detailed below). Start and finish in the shallow end of the pool. Typically, the temperature at this event is around 28.5°C.

Cycle Course: 1 x out and back route, which the roads are open to the traffic, so the highway code rules always apply. There is a mandatory foot down and stop junction on this route.

Run Course: 1 x out and back route, through the Wiltshire countryside. This route has a steady decline on the way out. The terrain is mixed approximately 50:50 grass and tarmac.

After several successful years of this being implemented into our children’s event, we have made the decision to remain with the shortened 250m swim in the adults event. The Smart Start System works by adding a swimmer into the pool every 20-30 seconds, depending on your swim speed. This prevents congestion and allows you to have a better swim as those in front of you have settled into their pace so there is no scrapping for the lead.

This smart start system will be implemented with a snake style swim course, where each swimmer will swim up and down the lane, duck under the lane rope, and continue in each lane until they exit the pool.

More importantly, this start method guarantees you start your race on the time in which you are given, no delays.

Fundraising

If you wish to fundraise for this event, we are encouraging support to The Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance provide an essential Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) throughout the county and beyond. The crew works alongside SWASFT (The South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust) land crews and other emergency services to deliver the best medical care possible to anybody who lives, works or travels in Wiltshire.

The air ambulance can scramble in just two minutes and reach anywhere in Wiltshire within nine minutes. The speed of our helicopter, along with the skill of our crew, can make the difference between life and death.

We fly up to 19 hours a day and attend, on average, 3 potentially lifesaving missions in that time. We are called to all kinds of emergencies, from road traffic collisions to cardiac incidents, child-related emergencies to horse riding and cycling injuries. These incidents are not just in Wiltshire but in neighbouring counties as well.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance is a charity and relies on donations to keep saving lives. It is not funded directly by the Government and receives no National Lottery grants. It costs £3.75 million a year to keep the air ambulance flying, that’s just over £10,000 per day.
